Visiting Prague in the Czech Republic in June was a visual (and edible) feast. I have been having fun sketching the incredible doors I discovered in Prague and playing with turning them into a calendar format. These are mockups which may or may not ever make it to the print stage. Let me know if you'd like one or have any feedback. The size here is 5.5x8.5 inches and would be on heavy cardstock to put in a wooden stand or tack on the wall.

I've been updating my website with new animal portraits and preparing for pet portrait commissions from the gift voucher I've started to sell on the shop. So excited to paint the animal family members for people who want to give a very special gift over the holidays to an animal lover. I'll be selling gift certificates and prints this coming weekend in Lincoln, MA at Bemis Hall from 12-5 PM on Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested in any of the work below in acrylic and gold leaf, send me an email. I will be doing more mixed media after the holidays and adding encaustic pieces to the gallery.

I'm finally getting back in the swing of daily painting, and have turned back to watercolors as I prepare for the holidays. There will be many paintings added to the shop that work well as a series - a series of Maine small works, a series of animals, a series of botanicals and still lifes. In the meantime, check out my latest work and some of my experiments with portraits at https://www.instagram.com/mirabeez/. More soon!

After moving back to my apartment from the ten months out in beautiful countryside, I've been hard at work setting the place up as a studio for both watercolors and acrylics and for making encaustic paintings (melted beeswax with oils) in my basement. Here are a few of the paintings I've been working on, most finished, but some awaiting the final touches. I've decided to focus for a few weeks (maybe longer) on color mixing with acrylics since the same concepts apply to watercolor and I'm eager to explore the textural possibilities of more opaque paint. All paintings are for sale and are 12x12 or smaller.

A book commission which I had been working on for several months of photographs and paintings of a special place with illustrated letters and botanical paintings was finally received by the client. I was thrilled that he shared many of the spreads with his friends and was happy with it.

"One's art goes as far and as deep as one's love goes."

- Andrew Wyeth

On the eve of Thanksgiving, I am feeling grateful for this new passion for painting and the way I am seeing the world with new eyes. I am grateful for the people who are encouraging me on this path and who are commissioning work from me. It is invaluable.

Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in her personal vision of the world...The inner life of a human being is a vast and varied realm."

- Edward Hopper

I have been warming up to a couple commissions I am working on by painting a couple of quick landscapes based on Walt Whitman poems.

Open Studios was so much fun this year and I had some fascinating discussions with people who visited and wanted to talk about their dogs, cats and who had interesting stories related to the short films I made which I played from the One Language Project (www.onelanguageproject.com).

Stay tuned for a December date for another studio opening with wine and cheese and many more paintings in time for gifts for the holidays.

This past week has been a flurry of activity getting ready for open studios at the Waltham Artist Mills where I have my painting and photography studio. I have made a self-imposed artist retreat by renting a nearby farmhouse where I can focus on various commissions I have of animal portraits and book. This house is the inspiration I need at the moment to absorb the variety of landscapes which surround this expansive and beautiful location. Stay tuned for more sky studies and animal portraits!
