Miranda Loud is a painter based in the Boston area, working primarily in oils and watercolor. Her subjects range from landscapes and interiors to flowers, animals, and small observations of everyday life. She is particularly drawn to color, texture, atmosphere, and the changing effects of light. She is also a professional musician - vocalist, organist and pianist. She has created over 60 short films for a project she started in 2008 called The One Language Project, exploring the human and nonhuman animal relationship to build empathy for other species. ARTIST STATEMENT

Painting is a form of meditation for me—a way of paying attention to a presence that is not just what I am observing, but the emotions and imagination sparked by my gaze. I’m fascinated by the ways our perception of a place or object can shift through reflections and shadows, layers of texture, and thin glazes of color. Each painting is an exploration.

I want the viewer’s eye to travel through and around a painting, lingering over texture and color, shape, edges and light. Whether I’m painting a landscape, an interior, person, animal or still life, I strive for each painting to draw the viewer in to see a story held within the layers and brush strokes.
