Every Hedge Has an Eye, Every Ditch an Ear
This quote is from one of Kurt Jackson’s paintings which I saw today back in St. Just at the Kurt Jackson Foundation center. I have a few of his sketchbooks which he sells that include a lot of his writings about biodiversity and his connection with the landscape he paints and I wanted to see his work in person. I especially love his paintings of foxgloves with the different insects and creatures that live in the fields where foxglove flourishes. To read more about Jackson’s work, mission and impact you can see more here, https://www.jacksonfoundationgallery.com/education/ If you click on individual images below they should open in a lightbox so you can zoom in to read and see more if you are interested!
I sat in the town center of St. Just feeling like “a regular” since I had been there two days prior, and did another little sketch of some of the buildings before visiting the Jackson gallery. I bought several cards and headed to the bus which took me the hour long way back to Penzance. It was a stunning journey along the coast and through the countryside and also reminded me why I didn’t rent a car because it often seemed as if there was just an inch to spare between the bus, the hedges and the oncoming cars. In Penzance I picked up a ticket to Falmouth via Truro and had a relaxing train ride to Falmouth where I have spent a decadent and relaxing afternoon at St. Michael’s spa. Below are some images from my busride from St. Just and from the spa where I’m staying for three nights for some much needed recalibration and rejuvenation. If you look carefully at the final pictures below you can see the seagull that picked up one of these cucumber sandwiches from the table in the spa garden where there was cucumber/mint/elderberry water. Later he/she returned to get one of the quarter sized tarts. I mean, who wouldn’t want to try if you were a seagull? After checking in, I spent two hours in the hydrothermal experience pools and reading outside overlooking the ocean. This has to be one of my top experiences of all time in travel and my first and hopefully not last time staying at a spa. With the nightmares unfolding in the rest of the world and not that far away in France and Spain (and Canada and Oregon, Michigan, Japan, Gaza, Ukraine etc etc. I am fully aware of the unfairness in the world and grateful that I have this time and experience.
